Fort Worth DWI Driver Crashes Into Home, Kills Teen

White Settlement Police Department investigated a deadly truck accident at about 6:37 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2022, that claimed the life of Saginaw high school student Katey June Kirkland. Katey was a senior who was looking forward to high school graduation. The accident also left her father, Kevin Kirkland, a Boswell High School teacher, seriously injured and her mother, a Saginaw High School teacher, shaken and with minor injuries. Furthermore, a woman in the truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Officials with the White Settlement Police Department say that 63-year-old Donald Gruber crashed into the residents while the three people were at home. They also say that before the pickup that Gruber was driving first jumped the curb and ran across the yard before striking the house, where it ran through multiple bedrooms.

Update on Keven Kirkland

On August 27, 2022, fans attending the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw football game surrounded the mother while the event was videoed to show their support for Kevin, who remained in the hospital in critical condition. A GoFundMe account raised over $18,000 to help cover expenses for the family.

Current and Prior Convictions

White Settlement Police Department officers charged Donald Gruber with intoxication, manslaughter, and intoxication assault. They forwarded the criminal case to the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. Gruber, who moved to White Settlement a few months ago, had been charged with DWI in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida in 1983 and 1994. He was also charged with DWI in DeKalb County, Georgia in the late 1990s.

Help to Recover From Truck Accidents

The victim’s family is in the unfortunate situation of having to plan their daughter’s funeral, care for related injured family, and find a new place to live. All while trying to recover from her own personal injury.

While no one can bring the teen back or help those injured recover from personal injuries, a personal injury lawyer can help the family recoup financially. The family will likely have many long-term bills to pay for medical care. So, working with a personal injury lawyer can help build the case they need to ensure they receive maximum compensation in the wake of their disaster
