Haltom City Bicycle Accident Leaves One Man Dead

Hit-and-run accidents can be complex cases. If you or your loved one were involved in a hit-and-run accident, talk to a personal injury lawyer about your case.

Haltom City Bicycle Accident Leaves One Man Dead

Police were notified of a man injured in what appeared to be a bicycle accident in Haltom City. No vehicles were at the scene. Upon arrival, a 54-year-old man was found critically injured near his bicycle. Police tried to resuscitate the man, but he was declared dead at the scene. Police stated that the event was not due to criminal activity. The accident is still under investigation.

Hit and Run Bicycle Accidents

The above-stated accident was most likely a result of a hit-and-run vehicle accident. The surviving family members who qualify for compensation may still be able to sue for wrongful death, even if the driver is never caught. Thankfully, most hit-and-run drivers are caught.

Consult A Dallas Personal Injury Lawyer About Your Accident

If you lost your loved one to a hit-and-run accident, you might be able to file a wrongful death claim. Certain surviving family members have the right to seek compensation for their losses when their loved one dies from a personal injury.

If the hit-and-run driver is caught, they will face criminal charges as well as liability for the wrongful death. The court may even add punitive damages to the compensation claim because they broke the law by leaving the scene of the accident. Punitive damages are meant to punish the responsible party for a willful or heinous action that causes another person harm.

When the hit-and-run driver is not caught, your personal injury lawyer can still help your family claim compensation for your loss. Your attorney can turn to your personal injury protection (PIP) insurance, and if you have an uninsured/underinsured rider on your policy, they may be able to claim against this portion of your policy as well.

Most people do not realize that your PIP insurance will cover the event if you are in a pedestrian accident. If the responsible party is available, their insurance will kick in to cover the accident; if not, your PIP policy will be used to cover losses.
