A truck driver who was a contractor for the United States Postal Service died during an accident on U.S. 75 and Stacy Road at about 1135 a.m. According to officers with the Allen Police Department, the semi that was headed north hit another vehicle, slid a short way, and went up partway over the West Bethany overpass, where it came to a stop balancing precariously in mid-air before bursting into flames.
The truck driver, who was a 71-year-old man, died in the accident.
Investigation Into Deadly Semi Truck Accident
The Allen Police Department offered sincere condolences to the man’s family. Investigators with the Texas Department of Transportation are investigating the
truck accident.
They say that section of U.S. 75 was widened in 2015, and a new barrier was installed. According to a written statement from the Department of Transportation, the “big rig hit a passenger vehicle, its right tires then rolling up and over the barrier.
The vehicle’s fuel tanks ruptured and ignited as the truck, and its contents of mail and other correspondence landed upside down on the northbound service road” Texas A&M Transportation Institute’s William Williams said that the barrier, which was in standard use at the time that it was installed was never intended to stop a semi but could stop a passenger vehicle.
The victim’s wife said that her husband had 21 years of experience as a semi-driver and is asking anyone with information or video of the accident to come forward.
