A Fort Worth police officer had to be cut from his vehicle on August 3, 2022, after an accident forced the officer off the roadway and into a tree. At the time of the accident, the officer responded to a call for help from another officer involved in a foot pursuit. The injured officer was driving in the 3700 block of East Lancaster Avenue.
The officer had moved to the left lane at the time of the car accident. The suspect’s car veered into his lane, hitting the front fender of the patrol vehicle. Several other patrol vehicles were behind the car at the time of the accident. Those officers were able to alert the Fort Worth Fire Department, who had to cut the officer out of the vehicle. First responders with MedStar transported him to John Peter Smith Hospital in an unknown condition. The suspect left the scene of the accident.
Officers located the suspect a short time later. Then, officers from the Driving While Intoxicated unit determined that the suspect was drunk at the time of the accident. Therefore, they arrested a 27-year-old man, on suspicion of intoxication assault, and leaving the scene of an accident.
The Fort Worth Police Department says they are not releasing the officer’s name currently, but they expect the officer to recover fully.
