A fiery dump truck accident near Rhome, Texas, caused over 50 emergency vehicles to respond to a grass fire near Highway 287 at about 8:45 p.m. on August 3.
Witnesses say that the dump truck was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 287. Then, the truck went up the entrance ramp at Pioneer Road. The crash may have caused sparks to fly off the truck. Those sparks may have caught the parched grass near the accident scene on fire. Local emergency dispatchers received numerous phone calls from the accident scene. Officials evacuated residents in the area surrounding the fire. The fire also caused some power outages, which were highly uncomfortable as temperatures hovered near 100 degrees. The entire region has experienced extreme drought and hot temperatures throughout the summer.
Reckless Driver Causes Fire
Officials believe the dump truck driver was driving recklessly when the accident occurred. It is possible farmers could have used some of the grass to feed livestock. Conditions have been so dry in Texas recently that farmers have been unable to get hay for their livestock, so any loss of grass is devastating.
No Reported Injuries
Thankfully, this case does not appear to be any type of personal injury. Yet, the cost of the fire can be extremely devastating, and those people need compensation. A Dallas personal injury lawyer may be able to help.
