1 Dead, 1 Injured After Garland Truck Accident
On Nov. 1st, two 18-wheelers were involved in a deadly Garland truck accident that left one victim injured and one sadly succumbing to their injuries.
The accident occurred at around 4:45 am on I-30 near Zion Road. Both trailers were traveling westbound, and once they collided, they burst into flames.
Good Samaritan Saves a Life After Deadly Truck Accident
A man driving to East Texas witnessed the immediate aftermath of the accident. Being the only other driver around, he swiftly pulled over and rushed over to help. The driver of one truck was reaching out of the cab’s window and the good samaritan pulled him to safety. The rescuer then learned there was another person in the cab with a severely broken leg.
Both men were safely placed at a concrete barrier in the center lane until police arrived to survey the truck accident scene.
The daring rescue took place over two minutes.
Truck Accidents Play a Major Role in Motor Vehicle Injuries and Deaths
Truck accidents are unfortunately all too common on today’s roads. These accidents often involve severe injuries or even fatalities due to the size and weight of the truck. In fact, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 10 percent of all motor vehicle deaths in 2020 involved large trucks like 18-wheelers.
One factor contributing to these accidents’ severity is the large size of 18-wheelers. These trucks can weigh up to 80,000 pounds, making them difficult to stop in an emergency situation. In fact, they require 20 to 40 percent more distance than the average vehicle to come to a safe stop.
Additionally, the high center of gravity on these trucks makes them more likely to tip over in a collision. As a result, accidents involving 18-wheelers are often much more serious than other types of vehicle accidents.
