What Should You Do After A Car Accident Happens?

Fort Worth car accidents happen every day. Some are minor fender benders, while others result in multiple injuries or death. How you react to a car accident after it occurs can significantly impact your compensation claim.

It does not matter the severity of the Dallas car accidents. All accident victims are encouraged to use the following guideline when an accident happens.

  1. Notify Emergency Services

You want to make sure that the police have been notified so a report can be generated. A police report is crucial to the claims process. You may also need to request an ambulance if there are severe injuries.

  2. Do Not Assume Any Fault For The Accident

It is very important that you watch what you say after an accident happens. Do not say “I’m sorry” to the other driver, or “I should have seen…” or any other similar phrase. Allow the professionals to determine the cause of the accident. Assuming responsibility can give the insurance company a reason to deny or reduce your claim.

  3. Please Seek Medical Attention

Even if you do not leave the scene in an ambulance, go to the emergency room and get checked. A personal injury does not have to be catastrophic in nature to still be serious. That headache you have at the scene of the accident may not be stress. It may be a concussion. Protect your health and get checked out.

  4. Consult A Dallas Personal Injury Lawyer

Hiring a personal injury lawyer as soon as possible after the accident will help you protect your rights as an injury victim. Your lawyer can manage all of the interactions you have with the insurance company, alleviating a lot of the chaos and frustration that injury victims face when filing a claim.

  5. Avoid Social Media

Insurance companies will start monitoring your social media accounts as soon as you file a claim. It will always be in your best interest to significantly reduce postings to your social media accounts until your case is finalized.
