Off Duty Police Officer Killed In Drunk Driving Accident In Texas

On November 27th, an off-duty Euless police detective was driving with his family at 1:30 in the afternoon and was struck by an intoxicated driver. The driver ran a red light and hit the car carrying the police officer and his family at full speed.

The detective was sadly declared dead at the scene. The passengers, a woman, and two children were taken to the hospital where the woman was in critical condition, and the children were being treated for multiple injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was arrested at the scene and charged with intoxicated manslaughter and three counts of aggravated assault. The driver was not injured.

DWI Accidents Often Lead To Catastrophic Injuries Or Death

DWI accidents are generally associated with catastrophic injuries or death. The driver who is under the influence often operates their vehicle recklessly, at high speeds, or fails to use the brakes on the vehicle, even at lower speeds. This causes a more serious impact on the other vehicle leading to extensive injuries or death.

Speak With A Dallas Personal Injury Lawyer About Your Accident

Injuries received in a car accident are often life-changing. These injuries can also lead to devastating financial issues for the victims. It is only fitting that the responsible party is held accountable for their actions and pays compensation to the victims for their losses.

In most cases, victims of a personal injury event can receive the following types of compensation:

  • Medical expenses, both current and future, for their injuries. This includes lifetime care if necessary.
  • Lost wages and benefits.
  • Future earnings and benefits if you cannot return to work.
  • Pain, suffering, and mental anguish.
  • Loss of enjoyment of life and loss of companionship
  • Other financial losses resulting from the accident, such as having to retrofit a home or vehicle to accommodate the injuries.

In the above case where one of the victims, unfortunately, passed away, a family may also be entitled to seek compensation for wrongful death.

Since these cases can be very complex, especially if a wrongful death claim is included, it is essential to speak with a personal injury lawyer about your case. Your attorney can help protect your rights as a victim and manage your claim so that you receive all of the benefits that you are entitled to under the law.

Car accidents are devastating events. Do not face the aftermath alone. You do not have to manage your claim and deal with an uncompassionate insurance company.
